What is better to hook up Laptop to a HDTV? SVGA to RGB cables or SVGA to HDMI cables?

Posted on 29. Jan, 2010 by admin in Cables

I have a Toshiba laptop that has an SVGA output (no DVI unfortunately), and a new HDTV that has both HDMI and RGB inputs.
I plan on using a converter cable to hook up my laptop to the TV.

Any idea on which will give me better quality?

Thanks in advance!

SVGA and VGA are not compatible with HDMI. There is no cable with a SVGA/VGA on one end and HDMI on the other, you need to use a converter box. Use the RGB input.

There are cables that are HDMI to VGA.

Is it RCA cables? Or componet? I’m guessing component. And i’m pretty sure that VGA is still better than Component. But they are about the same. There are disputes about their qualities.

Anyway how good this cable is, i couldn’t tell you. But theoretically, the vga should be better.

Don’t waste money on cables. None will work.

SVGA to HDMI is impossible without analog to digital converters.
RGB VGA to YPbPr will work only if your video card can output YPbPr over VGA, which is not impossible, but rare – otherwise you need a converter box.

You are going to need something with a power supply if your computer has a VGA wich most do you can use this converter.
